Callings

The Church runs on volunteered time and service, organized through callings. We choose to accept or reject these callings when Church leaders extend them to us. When we are faced with this choice we must remember the following:
  • Church leaders truly are inspired from heaven. They know where we need to serve. We must not doubt them even if it is difficult not to.
  • There are many reasons why a certain calling is right for us. Most obvious, we have the necessary qualities and skills for that position or, conversely, we need to develop the needed qualities and skills. Other reasons may not even be related to the calling. In my case, I needed to meet a certain person, who shared the same calling. We have since become close friends and blessings in each other's lives.
  • When we magnify our callings, everyone benefits. We grow and the ward grows; we learn and the ward learns; we love and the ward loves us back.
  • Every calling in the ward is important. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 emphasizes this by comparing members to body parts and explaining how every body part is essential and should be honored. Never be ashamed of your calling.

I love this post!!! Through my callings I have met the most AMAZING people and been able to get to know them in a special way that I wouldn't have otherwise. I LOVE my current calling and I LOVE the amazing woman I get to work with. She has become one of my best friends and I LOVE her to pieces!!! I don't know why things work out the way they do, but it brings me comfort that God has a plan. Love you!!!

Dad and I are serving together as primary Sunday School teachers to twelve 6 year olds and enjoying it. This is the first time that we have served together. We lucked out in that it is a well behaved class and they are all as cute as can be. My favorite calling was ward librian and my most challenging was as a Young Women counselor.

How to Know if the Book of Mormon Is True

photo from lds.org A previous set of elders put me on the 12-week course for new missionaries. Last night as I was finishing up the week on revelation through the Book of Mormon, I came upon this study activity: Read Moroni 10:3-5 and discuss how these verses show what an investigator must do to gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon. Discuss the meaning and importance of real intent and how to help investigators develop real intent. I considered skipping it since I had read that scripture passage countless times, especially with studying Preach My Gospel , and because the discussion seemed to focus on real intent, which had been covered thoroughly in that week's study. But I decided to humor myself and do it anyway. And what I learned surprised me. Preach by the Spirit

ldsclipart.com I'm a writer, editor, and linguist. The words I choose and how I organize them are very important to me. That is why I prefer expressing myself through writing over any other method. I also enjoy public speaking because sharing my insights is exciting. I prepare my speeches, talks, and lessons in advance so I know exactly what I'm going to say. Church talks I always write out word for word to ensure I don't forget anything and so it's coherent and cohesive. As a teen, I would practice my talks until I practically had them memorized. Due to the increased focus on making the Sabbath a delight and sacrament meeting more spiritually fulfilling, our branch president told us he wanted us to have only an outline for our talks and to lean on the Spirit for guidance.
